Well, here we are. Thirteen months and counting… and still no referral.
But there is hope… we are getting little tidbits here and there from our case worker. She is very careful not to tell us anything we shouldn’t know, but I think she has taken pity on us a bit and is dropping a few broad hints. Mix that with gossip from the on-line groups, well! then you have a veritable truth!
So what do we THINK we know? (aka: Stuff we can tell you on the pubic internet!)
We’re almost positive our kids are alive. I mean, they have already been born. Since there was no bottom age limit, any point in the last 13 months, we could have had one or two kids still not in this world. But we’re pretty sure they exist now.
We’re pretty sure they are coming from the orphange in Nazareth, Adassa. This means that English will be their THIRD language, as they will have first learned (of course, depending on how old they are,) their birth language, such as Oro. Then, they will speak and be spoken to in Amharic at the Transition Home… and then English here. And we want to put these kids into French Immersion one day! Whew! Well, they are still young enough to absorb and learn multiple languages at once, thank goodness.
We know that the agency is tracking down paperwork for several children. And the rumour mill says that the director of the agency is or was recently in Ethiopia. (And stuff tends to happen while she’s there.) That’s just rumour though!
So, the moral of the story is that we expect to hear something this month. It will be a an amazing day, let me tell you.
In the meanwhile, we just have questions…
Two girls, two boys, or one of each?
How old are they?
Where exactly are they now? What are they going through? How are they feeling? Are they happy? Sad? Healthy? Well-fed? Well-loved?
Guess we’ll just have to wait. And the one thing I DO know FOR SURE – we are experts at waiting by now!

Glad you are nearing the end of your wait… I’m going to guess two boys. Can’t wait to find out if I’m right or not.
I hope that your referral comes very soon. I can’t imagine how hard it is to wait for 13 months but I am sure I will learn… lol…
This is very exciting. A referral would really make a wonderful Thanksgiving present, wouldn’t it?!
Ohhhhhhh!!!!! This is it! No month 14!!! Very happy and excited for you and hoping that you’re not kept waiting too much longer. C’mon kiddos, reveal yourselves!
Hummm, June… that’s what my husband is guessing too!
Since there is guessing on gender, I’ll throw a guess in there too. I guess girl and a boy. I guess twins… 3ish.
Twins!!! well… maybe then we need a poll………..
13 months!!! Who would have thought hey!
I am excited to know that you “know” there are children out there waiting for you.
Oh, the blog checking will increase
Rana
P.S. I say two boys as well!
Come on Lucky 13!
hoping and praying for some breakthru, soon!
our kids are on language #4 and speaking french nicely, thank you very much!
my wish is girl/boy combo, works well for us!
happy for you/jealous re the long drives. our kids have not really taken to the whole seatbelt/long car ride thing which we enjoyed during our first 11 married yrs. but they will love the hiking/water and wine tasting, oh no they can’t do that. yet. unless your referral takes another blasted 17 yrs. come on home kids, sk
Well, last year this time (one week after thanksgiving) we recieved our referral… also after thirteen long months. Your kids are probably already in the CAFAC home. They are probably already assigned to you, its just the last little finishing details that have to be wrapped up, before you can be told. Its going to be soon. Then the real nailbitting, wishing time would disappear, can’t talk or think about anything else period in your life begins (that period for us was 7 months). Then you travel and real life with your kids starts
. It happened to us and it will happen for you!
Happy thanksgiving. You can already give thanks for your little ones, because they ARE OUT THERE and in not too long you will have pictures!
